Marching out
Last week of March brought soil temps up by 5 degrees here. Puts me behind on cool weather crops. Tilled a few rows in the kitchen garden and sewed some snap peas. Put your trellis up before they come up. Put that lowest string low... give those first tendrils a good landing spot to start climbing.

Tomatoes?!
Yes...it is too cold for tomatoes to go out as usual. Let's try something unusual... We have a few pretty large plants we started back in early February. You can buy a couple big plants if you want to try this.

Common trick when planting tomatoes is to snap off lower branches and put them a bit deep.
But lets take off alot of those branches and put them about a foot deep. Use a post hole digger or a hand trowel if needed and drop these in.

45 degrees is your goto for covering
Put your trellis or stake up now so you can throw a sheet or cloth over them if it drops temp. Roots are deep and and temp will not fluctuate down there. I'll keep you posted on their progress. Should get some tomatoes about a month early. Last weeks romain looking good in the background.
